Message from the President, Gary Vielbaum

It was during the Roaring Twenties that my grandfather, Herbert Vielbaum saw the need to establish a local automotive repair shop capable of offering comprehensive care to the mid-San Francisco Peninsula. While decades have elapsed and the complexity of the automotive industry has evolved, the basic tenants of Herbert's business model remain he same – establish a rapport of excellent automotive care and build lasting, genuine relationships with customers.

20th Century Roots

Established in 1923, Herbert showed an amazing resourcefulness that has become a point of pride for the business. Through his ingenuity Herbert was able to sustain the business through one of the most tumultuous economic periods in our nations history. From providing laundry services to selling Union Oil Gasoline from business' curbside pump, there was never a lack of original ideas to supplement the auto repair business. Ultimately Herbert and later my father Walter's superior care for customers and ability to foster lasting relationships have cemented the Pacific Auto's success.

21st Century Vision

The Automobile Industry has no doubt come a long way since then. While radical changes throughout the 1960's and 1980's brought about a time of transition for the industry, we are on the verge of an even greater transition. A paradigm shift is taking place; one characterized by a radical rethinking of how our cars consume resources, affect our cultural landscape, and their role in sustainable development. While society has always sought to cope with the socio-environmental externalities of the automobile, we have no doubt approached a breaking point. With the world population set to reach 9.1 billion people by 2050, a growing appetite for energy in emerging economies, and the threat of global climate change, the industry will no doubt undergo extreme pressure for reform in accordance to these new demands. As a automobile-servicing provider we understand that we have limited impact in technological development and manufacturing operations of vehicles, however we do believe that we hold significant responsibility to properly service vehicles in the most environmentally responsible manner. Our 21st Century vision at Pacific Auto Repair is to provide the upmost responsible auto care that not only seeks to satisfy customers but reduce the environmental footprint of a vehicle through its operational lifecycle.

Sincerely,
Gary Vielbaum
